Biodynamic Massage Therapy

Michael Hegarty, Psychotherapist and Counsellor, Moycullen, Co. Galway. Psychotherapy and counselling in a confidential, non-judgmental, secure environment. This form of therapy was developed in the 1950s by a Norwegian psychologist and physiotherapist, Gerda Boyesen. The aim is to work with the body to bring about wholeness or connection between body, mind and spirit. Boyesen believed that the mind and body are in constant interaction and dialogue and that the suppression of many emotions can lead to stress and serious illness. As therapist, Michael connects with the client through massage, breath exercises, bodywork and listening/talking.

Michael was hugely impressed when he first discovered this therapy and he has found it very beneficial for his clients to date. He employs a special stethoscope to listen to rumblings (psycho-peristalsis) in the client’s gut. The sounds indicate the digestion of stress in the body’s system. When energy is flowing freely in the body, the psycho-peristalsis is fully functioning and the body is better able to self regulate and deal with stress.

At the initial stage Michael will talk to the client about how they will work together and ask what form of therapy they would prefer. Often the earlier sessions will see the client opting for massage of head, hands and feet, fully clothed, giving time for the client to settle into the relationship.
